PROJECT 2 — CARPARK & COMMUNITY HUB REDEVELOPMENT
Improving essential infrastructure and creating all-weather social space
All-Weather Community Hut
At the centre of the newly improved carpark, a roofed community structure will be constructed. This feature will provide:
- sheltered seating and rest space
- social dining and meeting opportunities
- an all-weather base for gatherings
- potential for small outdoor markets, school use, tourist rest areas, and group activities
By developing the playparks and the carpark in parallel, the village gains a coherent recreational zone — a connected green corridor between infrastructure and play.
To reach its full potential, the playpark regeneration project requires the surrounding infrastructure is also addressed as the carpark between the two playparks is outdated, uneven and poorly marked.
As a result, we are looking to delivering a second major project:
Carpark Resurfacing & Layout Upgrade
The entire carpark area will be resurfaced, relined and reorganised to:
- improve safety and visibility
- optimise vehicle and pedestrian movement
- deliver accessible, clearly defined spaces
- enhance drainage and year-round usability
These projects are strategically designed to:
- improve health and wellbeing
- strengthen social relationships
- support early years development and teen inclusion
- increase village pride
- enhance tourist appeal along the NC500 route
- provide safe, modern community assets
- bring long-term economic benefit
Neighbouring villages such as Balmacara and Applecross have successfully delivered similar playpark investments — proving that ambitious community projects in remote Highland areas are achievable through collaboration, planning, and strong vision.
